We all know that the vet's office can be QUITE expensive and a bit of a pain in the butt to go to. I got sick of waiting an HOUR or more just to buy our cat's Hill's KD dry food. More than half the time they sold me EXPIRED cat food...which I didn't notice till I got home. ANNOYING.
I strongly (demanded) copies of our cat's presciptions and went elsewhere... So, I've been ordering the food from a pet place on 34th street and they deliver to my office which is really helpful. Tal won't eat Hill's wet food so she gets Fancy Feast Elegant Medley's (the broth ones - NOT the others). I'm getting fluids from a Walgreens in Queens. Find a friendly pharmacist and explain the situation - you can get a CASE of the bags for like $2.50 per bag. Haul it home once and you're set for many...many...many months. We order our needles online - soooooo much cheaper than the vet's office. And, convenient...and you can order in BULK so you're not running over to the vet's office every 2 weeks. We give Tal vitamins everyday, we've opted for the kind (with iron!!!) that comes in a toothpaste shaped tube. We squeeze that into a baby food jar and then use a plunger that's curve shaped (it goes farther and more comfortably down her throat) to administer. No fuss. Barely any muss. |

I found a small pharmacy near me in Queens that could sell me fluids. This was after a lot of searching - I asked Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. - any place that had a pharmacy and they all seemed a little confused about what I was asking for.
Which Walgreens do you go to? I continue to purchase food from the vet but I've been going during off-hours like in the afternoons when I know they're doing surgery so the waiting room is empty. I also purchase needles and other supplies on-line. If anyone is interested, a great resource for is the Yahoo group, "Feline CRF Support" - there's a ton of really useful information. |

Juliet, Could you please tell me where you got drip sets on-line? I got my ringer fluids at CVS, my needles at my vet (I love the 20 guage ones, as the cat doesn't feel any pain ever), but I have to pay $70 for 12 drip sets at my vet and would like to see if I can get them cheaper on-line. How do you do it, and do you need a prescription for drip sets? (I did get one, but do I need it for the drip sets alone?) Nice talking at ya! Martha |

The pharmacy in Queens that I get fluids from is in Whitestone. The pharmacist is SUPER NICE. It was like $25 or something for a case (12 bags).
Walgreen's 14928 14th Ave Whitestone, NY 11357 (718) 746-9862 I also get the needles/drip sets from Brico. |
