Hi everyone. I have a very special burmese, Kinsey. My husbands ex-wife was found the 14th in her apatment, she had died 5 days before. Kinsey was her life. When they called us to her apartment to identify her they told us to get rid of the cat. I feel so sad to think of what she went through. She had food int he apartment but wouldnt eat. It has taken me a week now to get her to eat again. I dont know anything about the breed but I still think she is too thin. I can see her back bone, her hip bone and the bones in her head. She still walks around meowing all the time. I dont know what to do to help her except give her plenty of love. I cant find anything that she will eat more than a bite or two to help her put her weight back on. Does anyone know about this breed and what they like or what I can do for her? And are they sappose to meow so much or is she just still traumatized? Please anything that would help.

I have a 5 yr old male burmese......he thrives, no - demands! attention and yes, they do "talk" a lot. They are almost more like dogs in their attachment to their humans.....not the usual aloof attitude of cats (like my Siamese female!). If she is finally eating again, that is a good sign. Also, a very good quality dry food does have more calories in it than canned foods do. However, if she doesn't seem to be drinking enough water, canned food added once a day will at least give her more fluid even tho she may just lap up the "gravy" and leave the food uneaten.
How old is she? If kept indoors (as all cats should be!), Burmese cats can live 20 to 22 years. Have you taken her to the vet? She may be dehydrated from not eating and they can put her on a glucose or fluid IV overnite to "plump" her back up. If I were in your situation, I would spend as much time as possible with her....holding her, petting her, spending quiet time with her.......even letting her sleep with you if you can (my Levi's favorite activity!). She will talk a lot....especially when she thinks you're not paying enough attention. Try a snack called "Greenies".......every cat I know loves them! (I volunteer with a cat rescue group in Houston). I know this is long winded, but just remember that this cat is more like a lap dog than a cat!! She will become your "baby" and be totally loyal to you if given the chance. I hope this helps. |
